Move over paper towel!

The many sustainable uses of the flower sack towel…

Whether you’re channeling your inner Cinderella scrubbing the pots and pans, Martha Stewart planning the best party ever, Betty Crocker baking apple pie or Joanna Gaines demolishing and decorating, Sand and Pine has just what you need to get the job done…the Flour Sack Towel!

The use of flour sacks isn’t a new idea. Early on in the 1800’s wholesalers began packing flour, sugar and other dry goods in cotton sacks. Later, when these sacks were replaced with cheaper paper containers, a surplus of the sacks were stowed away and forgotten, but not for long. Depression survivors recall using flour sacks for everything from kitchen towels to clothing and it is this frugal and inventive spirit that inspires us today!

White Flour Sack Towels can replace every cloth item you need in a kitchen. The towels are sanitary and can be used to clean counters or dry dishes, and don’t worry if you stain them, they can easily be bleached. In addition these towels are wonderful to use when baking and cooking. Each towel has a corner loop that is perfect for hanging dry or storing when finished. Elegant yet practical, these towels work well with any home decor!

White flour sack as a dish towel

Used as dish towels, our Flour Sack Towels, thin yet absorbent, can be used to dry all manner of dishes, and any and all kitchen surfaces. Because of their thinness, these towels, when hung over a dishwasher or oven handle, or on a hook by the built in loop, are quick to dry and easy to store.

Need to get something out of the oven or remove a pot from the stove? You can use our Flour Sack Towels as a potholder. Fold the towels in half or in quarters and your hands will be safe and protected from hot pans, pots or baking dishes.

I don’t usually cook a whole chicken, but I do love to buy rotisserie chickens! Once the meal is done, boiling the carcass makes an excellent base for chicken soup. Using the Flour Sack Towel as a secondary strainer gives me the perfect clear chicken broth.

As a strainer, flour sack towels can also be used to cover a cut lemon or orange when squeezing for fresh juice. The juice comes through leaving the seeds behind. Perfect for that morning Mimosa or afternoon lemonade!

Flour Sack Kitchen Towel as a rising/proving cloth

I love to bake and have been known to make some mean cinnamon rolls. As a rising/proving towel, the Flour Sack Towel is perfect. Lightweight, the towel doesn’t flatten the dough as it rises and, if slightly dampened, keeps your dough from drying out.

Flour Sack Kitchen Towel as a glass cleaner

I’ve cleaned my share of windows, mirrors and glasses. Flour Sack Towels are the only thing that does all three without leaving lint or streaks. All towels are pre-washed and pre-shrunk which enables the lint free cleaning!

White flour sack as a dust cloth

Dusting is probably my least favorite activity when it comes to housecleaning. Flour Sack Towels do make it a little easier when it comes to scrolling woodwork and tight places. Because the towels are so thin, they can be easily inserted into nooks and crannies for a total clean.

Refinishing furniture is a favorite pastime and made even more enjoyable with the proper tools. Flour sack towels are perfect for applying stain evenly and wiping off excess. They are also wonderful buffing tools when dealing with polishing wax after chalk painting.

Polishing furniture is not the only polish that goes on well with flour sack towels. Shoe polish, while not an everyday occurrence, is something I still do with many of my leather footwear. The flour sack towel is wonderful for swiping on that polish as well as buffing the shoe surface to a “just like new” soft luster.

When cleaning house, doing yard work, or working out, hair needs to be up and away! Flour sack towels are great when rolled up and tied into a hairband. They absorb sweat keeping that and hair out of your eyes and off your neck. Dampened and used as a neckerchief, these towels can also help to keep you cool while doing all of the above.

Flour Sack Kitchen Towel as table linens

It’s always wonderful to sit down to a lovely dinner table. Having matching linens is not always possible but with flour sack towels, you always have a perfect set of white napkins. They iron well and hang beautifully, giving an elegance to any table setting.

While there is always time for elegance, most of our family meals are food fests! The meal above, a favorite of my sister Annie, is called Frogmore Stew. It is awesome and messy at the same time! Down here in the Northern Neck, we added crab legs and oysters for a truly amazing meal.

The mess requires some really heavy duty clean up as we eat on rolled out paper and only use our hands. Flour sack towels are the perfect “napkin” for this kind of feast as paper just won’t do!

This is just a small sample of what can be done with the Flour Sack Towel. With your creativity and imagination, we know you’ll come up with many more.

It’s time to throw away the paper towel and do the green thing…saving a little piece of our planet one towel at a time!

Now go out and…

Find your fancy!
